Send in the CLOWNS!

August 19, 2010 Leave a comment

Some more images from Thursday afternoons comedy class! Last week we met some crazy characters (including a gangster called Money and a builder who wears dresses!), some very bad clowns (who were still very funny!!) with peculiar talents, and a bunch of clowns at “not-very-good” school, all trying to get better! There are lots of ideas bubbling for the end of term performance – check in next week to see where the group take it from here!!

WHAT A FORTUNATE CHAIN OF DONUTS!

August 14, 2010 1 comment

And the story continues…Julia Abit, the school Principal has a magic potion, but where and how did she get it?! Carol Idunno, Clare’s mother wants a divorce from her husband but can’t remember his last name! Ruffles Moo, the infamous child thief trainer, has out run the law by posing as an elderly lady catching the bus, and Detective (soon to be Senior Detective) Steve Wall has been foiled again by Ruffles AND by Ben the Donut King at Donut Tennis forcing him to set off all his artillery in a one- minute -frustration.

That’s only the beginning!!

What next – I would say costumes and a few new characters. The Dungeon won’t hold us much longer!

Laugh n’ 1/2

This term our Thursday afternoon class is exploring COMEDY!

Already we’ve made up our own Charlie Chaplin inspired routines, tried out some clowning exercises, and last week improvised some Master/Servant scenes based on the classic Commedia dell’arte scenario! The scenes included some bossy masters who got their servants to do everything for them – including taking them to see the great wall of China, stealing diamonds and baking a cake with EVERYTHING in it (including tuna)!!!

Check in next week for more funny stuff!

A Little Story with a LOT of Character

August 4, 2010 4 comments

Not only have we begun to pull a play out of a hat, we  pulled LOADS of characters out of some costumes. Difficult to believe that in The Dungeon, last week, we had the following people (to name a few) – an orphan, a bear, an Italian Princess, a scientist, a movie star, a nurse,  Ben the Donut King Manager, Police Detective Steve Wall, ‘Lucky’ and Julia Abit!

Back to the story – We are following the decision of a young girl called  Clare,  who decides to do something her Mum would go bananas about (and we’re talking rotten bananas here! and no we are not going to tell you on the first blog cause it’s a secret and it’s a cool one and we like to keep you in suspense!)

This is only the beginning…stay tuned for updates on Clare’s story and our endless parade of characters!

Faces in the City

We are in a city.
Huge skyscrapers tower overhead.
Strangers rush by us on unknown but important errands.
Everything ticks or beeps or grinds or squeals or shouts or rings or startles.
How do you survive in a place like this?

At the end of Term 2, the general workshop company presented a wide variety of pieces centering around themes of the emotional disconnection, power struggles and moments of fear that can be part of living in a massive city. Some lighter works  explored escape from potentially stifling city life through the actions of benevolent heroes, supportive friends, or even ourselves. Life in a city can be dark and gloomy, but it can also be a fertile environment for self-reliance, bravery, and strong, lasting friendship.

Congratulations & Thankyou  to all involved.. It was a great night of original theatremaking and short film screenings.

Can’t wait to see what is uncovered in Term 3 (July 27 – September 19)

LITHP- Episode 2- S.A.M- ST10

May 26, 2010 Leave a comment

The second installment of LITHP, the tale of heroes, villians and cliches. The abductions of pretty (or more…petty) damsels in distressing situations and stripy red pants. This description will self distruct in five seconds.
